I—I’m trying to type this without feeling ashamed—I would actually watch this.
Calm down. We can chill out now.
Or what the Olympics should be. Also this.
Am I right or am I right?
Kottke takes on, rightfully, the nonsensical outcry behind the $1000 iPhone app removal:
I Am Rich isn’t the most clever piece of art, but it’s not bad either. For some, the iPhone is already an obvious display of wealth and I Am Rich is commenting on that.
…
App Store shoppers should get to make the choice of whether or not to buy an iPhone app, not Apple, particularly since the App Store is the only way to legitimately purchase consumer iPhone apps.
I think the greatest piece of this art project, which wasn’t really that great to begin with, was to show a side of the Mac culture we always pretend doesn’t exist: A $1000 application with no function should be ruthlessly removed from sight, not on the merits of its true market value, but rather the outcry of people who love functional design, but apparently abhor art for arts sake.
Isn’t that why we really buy Macs? So we can turn up our noses at the Microsofts of the world while simultaneously we kick out our clients’ next uninspired ad campaign, instead of simply creating art at our whims.
